A Practical Approach to Learning
Supporting ESI electrical workers with quality Live Work Training so they can consider and control the risks.
Specialised Live Work Training
Live Work means any high voltage work performed under approved procedures inside the minimum approach distance (MAD), on or near components of a line capable of being energised to high voltage without implementing the full protective practice of isolating, proving de-energised and earthing (NZECP 46:2003 definition).
The NZECP 46: 2003 requires that live high voltage training providers be registered and accredited by NZQA. They must also have the knowledge, skills, experience and resources to deliver training that meets industry standards. Lines & Cables Training complies with all the requirements.
Live High Voltage Training
We offer training in the following:
Live Line Stick (Hot Stick) – Non-Load Bearing/Load Bearing up to 66kV
> Live High Voltage (tailored) annual refresher training (1 day)
> NZ Certificate in Electricity Supply – Distribution Live Line Stick (Level 4) 65 credits, this is a 15-day hands on course
Glove and Barrier Method up to 33kV
> Live High Voltage (tailored) annual refresher training (1 day)
> NZ Certificate in Electricity Supply – Distribution Live Line Glove and Barrier (Level 5) 60 credits, this is a 20-day hands on course
Live Work Refreshers – NZECP (New Zealand Electrical Code of Practice) 46:2003 requirements
Live Low Voltage Training
Lines & Cables Training can support Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) electrical workers in considering and controlling risks associated with live low voltage work to ensure they are able to carry this work out in a safe manner.
Live Low Voltage Training for Line Mechanics
We offer comprehensive live low voltage overhead training courses designed to support the current electricity industry requirements for distribution Line Mechanics.
Live Low Voltage (5 days) – Live work fundamentals and methods
Live Low Voltage (1 day) – designed for G&B trained staff ONLY
Live Low Voltage (tailored) – refresher training
Live Low Voltage Training for Cable Jointers
We offer a comprehensive live low voltage underground training course that supports a distribution Cable Jointer in the current electricity industry environment.
Live Low Voltage (10 days) – Live work fundamentals
Live Low Voltage (tailored) – refresher training
* PILC (paper insulated lead sheathed cable) methods optional and training subject to location and PILC cable availability.
Live Work Training for Arborists
It’s important that all operational staff understands the electricity industry live work requirements. We offer a tailored, approved and accredited NZ qualification for vegetation/arborist teams so that they are fully equipped to support their local electricity network owner.
NZ Certificate in Electricity Supply – Utility Arboriculture (Level 3) 40 credits
This qualification is acquired by attending a 6-day block course and gaining 6 months of on-the-job experience.
